Here's a lovely drink recipe from the South of india called Panakam. It's a summer drink that's made with some wonderful ingredients that's sure to help you stay strong and healthy both inside and out.
Treat it as a healthy and beauty elixir.
The ingredients are few and simple and easily found in every household. Ditch the sodas and soft drinks this year.
Make a jug full and enjoy it with those at home.
Jaggery is rich in iron and magnesium, is a natural source of minerals and vitamins. Helps cool down the body, prevents constipation and is an overall internal cleanser.
Black pepper is an excellent source of calcium, phosphorus, potassium and magnesium, is both antibacterial and antioxidant . Used since ages to
cure cold, cough and congestion.
Ginger is rich in potassium and vitamin A, C and E, great for colds, cough, and congestion.
Lemon is rich in Vitamin B and C,
Has antiseptic properties.
Cardamom is rich in calcium, potassium, phosphorus, magnesium and Vit C, reduces chest congestion, good for treating digestive issues.
Turmeric, in Ayurveda, is believed to act as an antiviral, antibacterial and antiparasitic, and has long been used to help with diabetes, pain, rheumatism, osteoarthritis, memory and skin conditions like eczema.
Tulsi is rich in calcium and iron, vitamin K and A, it is antibacterial effect, helps cure colds, cough, and congestion.
The Recipe -
1/2 cup chopped jaggery
2 cups water or to taste
1/4 tsp dry ginger powder
Pinch of black pepper powder
1/2 tsp cardamom powder
Juice of 1 lemon
Pinch of salt
1/4 tsp turmeric powder (not part of the recipe but good for immunity)
Few tulsi leaves, finely chopped (so it can get eaten)
Dissolve jaggery in water and then filter to remove any impurities.
Add the rest of the ingredients and mix well.
Refrigerate or add ice cubes.
It's delicious warm as well.
