The main ingredient in this recipe is turmeric.

Here are two recipes  - 

With Turmeric powder :

½ tsp turmeric
1 cup milk
½ cup water
2-3 black peppercorns
Warm milk and water over low heat and stir in the turmeric powder. Bring to a boil and allow to simmer for 10 minutes. This will reduce the milk to one cup. Turn off the heat and add crushed black pepper. Drink it hot or warm.

With fresh turmeric root -

1” piece of fresh turmeric
1 cup milk
½ cup water
2-3 black peppercorns
Grate or crush the turmeric and add to milk and water. Bring to a boil and simmer for 10-15 minutes. Add crushed pepper and keep aside for 5 minutes. Strain the turmeric milk into a cup and drink it warm.


Ways to customize this drink with herbs -
Dates - Add dates syrup or puree of dates once the milk is ready. Dates are full of vitamins and minerals and adds that extra sweetness.
Cinnamon powder - Helps maintain normal blood sugar
Fresh gingerPromotes healthy digestion and is anti-inflammatory 
Other spices and herbs - holy basil / tulsi, nutmeg, mace, allspice, cloves.
